Is it bad for my horse to have a salt lick and electrolytes?

he has never had a salt lick but i figured its not like it can do him harm and the people at the tack store were ranting and raving about this new himalayan salt lick that the horses just love so i got him that. he also takes electrolytes and on the container it says, "salt and mineral replacement". so is it bad that he is getting both? i heard that horses will only lick the salt licks if they need the salt and that it is good for all horses to have them.
