How do you find your cervix to know it is closed in early pregnancy?!?

I have had a scare recently, I am very early in pregnancy, I don't know how far along I am as my appointment is not until the 11th but yesterday I had some bleeding with cramping. I called the doctor she said as long as it is not severe pain and I was not filling up a pad an hour it should be fine. Now the cramping is gone but there is still brown spotting. I had a blood test on the 29th of june to confirm pregnancy. I just want to make sure my cervix is closed so I can rule out a miscarriage. Many have said a miscarriage is very painful and I would know if I had one however, it is my first pregnancy so everything scares me. So how do I find my cervix? I have tried but it feels just all mushy inside and some brown discharge comes out on my finger (sorry TMI) but I just want to know what it feels like when it is closed!
